Originating in Southern China, but made popular in the West by the teaching of Grandmaster Ip Man from
the 1950s onwards in Hong Kong, Wing Chun Kung Fu is one of the most popular forms of martial art in the world today.
Wing Chun is a Chinese martial art that was developed for simple and effective self-defence. It is a practical, efficient
and economic system that emphasises an understanding of natural body mechanics when dealing with an opponent,
and not the use of sheer muscular force.
Wing Chun combines simple and direct short-range attack and defence techniques
with sensitivity, fast reflexes and the 'borrowing‘ of an opponent's energy. Because it does not rely on size and
strength, it is suitable for anybody regardless of age, gender or physique.
As well as self-defence, training Wing Chun also provides many other benefits. It sharpens mental and physical
skills as relaxation, concentration and awareness are integral parts of the Wing Chun system. This, in turn,
leads to broader health benefits of stress management and mental relaxation as well as improved physical fitness.
